Art In The Barn

3rd AUGUST 2026 · 2 MIN READ · THE TITHE BARN

The ever popular event, Art in the Barn returned from Saturday 29 to Monday 31 August, and this year it marked twenty-five years.

Thirty artists exhibited, all of them living within six miles of the barn. Watercolours, acrylics and pastels hung alongside linocut prints, sculpture and handmade artist cards, the whole range of a local creative community gathered under one sixteenth-century roof.

The weekend opened on the Friday evening with a ticketed preview, launched by York artist Patrick Smith, winner of the William Tier landscape award and the John Purcell London paper prize. From Saturday morning the exhibition was free to all, with a pop-up café serving homemade cakes in the Tudor Gardens for anyone who wanted to sit a while between the barn and the church.

"It's incredible to see how much it's grown. It's such a beautiful setting. Stephanie Wood, Chair of Art in the Barn

What began as a single exhibition in 2000, the year the barn's restoration was completed, has become a regular highlight of our calendar. The artists behind it now number more than forty, and they meet twice a month throughout the year. The show at the end of August is a showcase of all the amazing local talent we have in our midst.

We would like to mark 25 years of hosting Art in the Barn and express our thanks to Stephanie and the whole Art in the Barn committee, to every artist who hung work and stood by it for three days, to the volunteers who baked, poured and washed up, and to everyone who came through the door over the weekend, an amazing 1105 of you.

We look forward to welcoming Art in the Barn back next August. You can find out more about this fabulous group for local artists here.

"We really enjoyed meeting and talking with everyone, and the vibe you gave to the event."
