We are delighted you are thinking of hosting your wedding at Tithe Barn Poppleton, a truly beautiful venue set within stunning surrounding countryside. The character of the barn and its natural setting create a unique and memorable backdrop for your special day.

However, we do have some guidelines we have to follow to help preserve both the charm of the venue and the beauty of the local environment.

These simple measures will ensure everything runs smoothly and that your celebration is both enjoyable and respectful of this wonderful setting.

THE VENUE

What you need to know about the venue before you book.

Poppleton Tithe Barn provides a unique and special venue for wedding breakfasts. It is situated next to St. Everilda’s Church and the Sensory Garden is a beautiful space for post wedding photographs.

However, prospective hirers need to be aware of the restrictions of use which limit the number of weddings we are able to book each year. The Tithe Barn is very close to residential property and has no sound insulation therefore no sound amplification at all is allowed and hirers are asked to respect the peaceful nature of the environment.

All events with music must be have prior approval.

Points to note;

Although the barn is suitable for your Wedding Reception - we do not hire the barn for the actual wedding ceremony.

The venue is fully wheelchair accessible, with parking available right next to the venue and flat wheelchair access to the inside with the addition of a wheelchair accessible disabled toilet.

There are a number of parking spaces next to the church and at the road edge - parking there is limited and please respect residents’ parking.

The venue is close to York City Centre only a short taxi, train or bus journey should your guests be staying in the centre of York.

The barn is a non-commercial venue managed by volunteers, ensuring that all hire fees go to the upkeep of the barn.

THE SPACE

Details of the space.

The floor space is 18m in length by 8.7m wide, we provide a venue that can cater for up to 90 people sitting in comfort around tables within the Barn.

A maximum of 100 to 120 people can be accommodated if the side benches are used.

Central heating is available as the Barn may feel cold in the winter months. 

There are vents in the walls and the heating system has to create benign conditions due to the historic materials used in its construction. 

A heating surcharge (currently £25 - £50) is recommended between 1st Oct to 31st March.

Should you wish to hire the barn you would arrange your own catering and decorations within our guidelines and with the support of our volunteers.

Should you wish to hire the Tithe Barn for your wedding reception, you would arrange your own catering and decorations within our guidelines and with the support of our volunteers.

We do provide a full range of tables and chairs, you can see our inventory

  • Fixed: 3 large and 1 small

  • Folding: 4 round tables (1220mm), 5 square tables (1000mm), 8 rectangular tables (1830 x 760mm)

  • Rustic Trestle: 11

Chairs

  • Fixed Oak, solid with cushions: 20

  • Folding Chairs: 78

Stages

  • 4 Wooden Stages Available

Kitchen

  • Cups, saucers, small and large plates, bowls, cutlery: 100 each

  • Wine glasses:  60

  • Other glasses (assorted): 40

  • Hot water boiler: 1

Table Cloths

  • Approx. 15 Cream and 15 white.

These are available for Hire to all events apart from wedding receptions at £5.00 per tablecloth to cover laundry.

We have a small, recently refurbished, modern kitchen which is available including fridge, wine cooler, microwave, oven, hob and a water heater.
